CCFB Foundation...
The Christian County Farm Bureau Foundation would like to thank the Howard G. Buffett Foundation for it's support for the 2010-2011 Year. The efforts of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation has allowed our Ag Literacy program to continue reaching record numbers of Christian County Children with more lessons and programs about agriculture, the environment and the importance that both of them play in our lives.
We are pleased to be associated with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. For more information about our Foundation or Ag Literacy programs and how to volunteer or become a partner, please contact us at ccfb@ctitech.com

CCFB FOUNDATION NAMES 2010 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
This year, the
Christian County Farm Bureau Foundation is awarding five, $1000 scholarships
to Christian County Students pursuing a degree in an agricultural related
field. Sixteen students applied in this year’s program.
CCFB Foundation President RD Elder said, “Receiving this many applications
truly demonstrates the demand to help agriculture students with their
education.”
This year’s winners include Lauren Adcock of Moweaqua, Tamar Adcock of
Assumption, LeAnn Hall of Moweaqua, Kenzie Reber of Taylorville and
Christopher Waddell of Taylorville.
JUDGING
PROCESS
The CCFB
Foundation prides itself on a very unbiased judging process, allowing equal
opportunity for each applicant to be selected. Prior to the judging,
applicants are assigned a number to correspond with their name. Then the
student and parent name references are removed from the application and the
student/application is identified as a number, eliminating any favoritism.
The judging panel is made up of three county Farm Bureau Managers within the
Illinois Farm Bureau system from counties excluding Christian County. The
objective of the CCFB Foundation’s 2010 Scholarship program is to provide
scholarships to college students who major in agriculture, agribusiness or an
ag-related course of study. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of
exceptional scholastic ability and/or financial need. Applicants may have also
been the recipient of a previous CCFB Foundation Scholarship.
2010
WINNERS
LAUREN ADCOCK, MOWEAQUA
Lauren Adcock is excited to be pursuing a degree in such a diverse and
progressive field, such as agriculture. Lauren will be attending the
University of Illinois and will be majoring in Ag Finance. Her goal is to also
attend graduate school in Ag Finance with a specific emphasis in financial
analysts. After college, Lauren hopes to become employed with an ag
corporation, a bank or at a Midwestern ranch.
Lauren has grown up in the Moweaqua area and currently ranks at the top of her
Central A & M graduating class. At A & M, Adcock has been captain of the track
and cross country teams, served on student council, elected as a class officer
and been a member of Students Against Destructive Decisions and Spanish Club.
Agriculturally, Lauren raises and shows Angus and Simmental Cattle and has
strong involvement with both junior associations and plans to continue her
involvement with these ventures into the future. Much of her time that is not
spent in school or other extra curricular activities has been devoted to the
farm, especially the cattle.
TAMAR ADCOCK, ASSUMPTION
Tamar Adcock recognizes how much agriculture is changing everyday and is
excited about the limitless opportunities within the farming industry. Tamar
will be attending Kansas State University and will major in Animal Sciences
and Leadership Studies. She believes that attending Kansas State University
will help expand her knowledge and goals that she has with her family’s cattle
operation, especially in the use of embryo transfer and artificial
insemination within her herd.
Like her cousin, Lauren, Tamar also ranks atop the Central A & M graduating
class and has been involved with FFA, Volleyball, the WYSE Team, National
Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as was named a 2010
Illinois State Scholar.
Agriculturally, Tamar raises and shows Hereford Cattle and has been involved
with the National and Illinois Junior Associations and the Blue Ribbon 4-H
Club here in Christian County. Tamar credits her family for providing her with
the opportunity to travel the nation, see many different types of farming
practices and meet many people who make a living in agriculture.
LEANN HALL, MOWEAQUA
LeAnn Hall will be starting her second year at Purdue University’s School
of Veterinary Medicine, where she is concentrating on livestock with a
potential focus in theriogenology or production medicine. Her breeding sheep
program has used reproductive techniques such as artificial insemination and
embryo transfer as a means of improving genetic composition of the flock. From
this, LeAnn developed a sincere interest in the areas of reproduction
management and techniques. LeAnn believes that her focus on herd health
medicine and productivity will allow her to be a true asset to livestock
producers.
In college, LeAnn has served as a Purdue Ag Ambassador, a class representative
on the curriculum committee for the Purdue University School of Vet Medicine,
a Teaching Assistant and tutor in the Biology Department, volunteered at the
Purdue Large Animal Hospital and studied abroad in Australia. Locally, LeAnn
has served as a veterinary assistant for Dr. Marion Bliler, DVM and a
technician for Dr. Randy Thompson, DVM.
Agriculturally, LeAnn grew up on a grain and purebred sheep farm east of
Taylorville. Since being a small child, her love has been in agriculture and
sheep production. In her application LeAnn quoted the words of E.M. Tiffany’s
FFA Creed, “I believe that American Agriculture can and will hold true to
the best traditions of our national life and that I can exert an influence in
my home and community which will stand solid for my part in that inspiring
task.”
KENZIE REBER, TAYLORVILLE
Kenzie Reber believes that with her Agricultural Education Degree, she
will be able to do much more in her career than teach. Kenzie is anxious to
complete her degree and begin working with students and organizations such as
FFA, Farm Bureau and 4-H. She sees her education as an opportunity to spread
agricultural awareness to consumers and help agriculture grow even further
than it already has. Kenzie currently attends Joliet Jr. College.
At Taylorville High School, Kenzie was very active in the Taylorville FFA
Chapter earning her State FFA Degree and served as Chapter Sentinel and
Reporter. During her FFA career, she participated in numerous judging contests
within the Section. She’s additionally been very involved with Christian
County’s 4-H Federation and received local and statewide recognition for her
visual arts, leadership, food, public speaking, horticulture and dog projects.
Even though Kenzie lives in town, agriculture is her passion. Kenzie credits
FFA and 4-H for making her aware of the career possibilities available within
agriculture. As soon as she became more aware of the Ag Education career path,
she knew her opportunities were improving to become employed in a farm related
career after college.
CHRISTOPHER WADDELL, TAYLORVILLE
Christopher Waddell is enrolled in the Crop Sciences Department at the
University of Illinois. He hopes that his education and work at the U of I
will lead him to a career in Biotechnology. This past year, Christopher
studied in the Dominican Republic and witnessed first hand the need for high
quality produce and grains. After finishing his undergraduate career,
Christopher plans to pursue his Masters Degree in Crop Sciences as well.
Waddell attended Taylorville high school, where he ranked at the top of his
class. He was very involved with FFA, Key Club, National Honor Society, Big
Brothers/Big Sisters, 4-H and the Owaneco United Methodist Church. At the
University of Illinois, he is currently active in the Field and Furrow Club,
Illini Pride and Block I.
Agriculturally, Christopher has successfully exhibited pigs in 4-H and FFA,
was raised on a grain farm and even has his own 50-acre corn and soybean test
plot that led him to being named Section 16 Star Farmer in FFA and receiving
his state FFA Degree. He believes a career in Ag Sciences is the most logical
decision for him.
The Christian County Farm Bureau Foundation proudly salutes the 2010 winners
and encourages students to visit farmbureaunews.com in January 2011 for
next year’s applications.
