CHRISTIAN COUNTY RECEIVES ILLINOIS FARM BUREAU’S HIGHEST AWARDS AT 2009 ANNUAL MEETING
Christian County Farm Bureau is pleased to announce to you as members that your county organization was the recipient of the 2009 Illinois Farm Bureau President’s Award and Liberty Bell. This is the third time in six years in which Christian County Farm Bureau has been honored with these awards
The President’s Award is presented to four county farm bureaus in Illinois for the overall highest scores in program achievement. The Liberty Bell is awarded to the four counties for achievement in legislative and local affairs involvement. There are four membership groups. Christian County is in Membership Group III.
Below are a number of the events & efforts that highlighted a very successful year for CCFB:
- Interactive Farm at the county fair
- County FFA Leadership Trip to Chicago
- Wind farm development work to help protect landowner rights
- Wind policy submittals to IFB
- Farmer’s Share Luncheon & food price promotions
- Winter Market Outlook Series (7 events)
- Successful Foundation Golf Outing & Silent Auction
- Assistance with Christian County Ag Literacy Events
- Host to German Farm Leaders
- Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Program
- Great Pumpkin Weigh Off
- Winter Social events for members
- Timely Website with numerous resources for farmers on local issues, transportation resources, wind and economic developments, coal resources, upcoming events, up-to-the minute markets and member benefits
- Work with affiliates on commodity or member promotions throughout the year
- Research and written testifying to protect landowner rights during pipeline development
- Submitted written comments to protect landowners’ rights during T.E.C State and Federal Hearing Period
- Online surveys to members on crucial ag issues
- Updated county-wide discount program
- Consistent contact with state and federal legislators on ag issues
- Consistent contact with Chicago, IL Rep. Esther Golar, through the Adopt-a-Legislator Program
- Led numerous local efforts and federal and state legislative action requests to protect farmers
- Active involvement with Christian County Economic Development Corporation & Exec Board
- Regular attendance at Christian County Board Meetings
- Strong working relationship with the Illinois Department of Agriculture, IDNR & Association of IL Electric Coops
- Active involvement with numerous local service organizations, Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce and the Taylorville Mainstreet Organization
- Partnership with Christian County United Way

Illinois Farm Bureau acknowledged all the hard work done by County Farm Bureaus throughout 2009. Many of the 96 county Farm Bureaus in Illinois where awarded gold, silver or bronze stars for their efforts in activities key to building a stronger agriculture:

Seven counties were given additional recognition. Edwards County Farm Bureau, Piatt County Farm Bureau, Christian County Farm Bureau, and Champaign County Farm Bureau won the Presidents Award. The prestigious Presidents Award goes to the county achieving membership quota and top rank points for the eight program areas.
The county that excels in local affairs and legislative activities takes home the Liberty Bell. They were Gallatin County Farm Bureau, Saline County Farm Bureau, Christian County Farm Bureau, and Will County Farm Bureau.
